We think Google+ Local is one of the most underutilized platforms by small businesses for their online marketing. When set up correctly, it links your website to your YouTube channel to your Google+ account. Why is this significant?
Let’s start at the beginning. With Google’s ever changing search result algorithm, it can be difficult to stay on top of your strategy and on top of the search results. For local businesses, managing this process is critical. Compared to large national companies, local businesses tend to have tighter budgets and fewer extra hands to help with all the online marketing. Google+ actually makes a lot of this work more simple because it links to your other Google-based media outlets.
For example, if you create a really cool video about one of your products and post it on your company’s YouTube channel, it will link with your Google+ page, instantly providing more exposure for your company. Even though Google+ doesn’t have a large (relatively speaking) active user following, the search algorithm uses it – and that’s why it’s important. Simply posting the video provides content and links that are extremely valuable, not just because they are good marketing, but because they also help your ranking.
One mistake that we see a lot of our clients make is to create their Google+ page and then forget about it. Don’t fall into this trap! The nice thing about Google+ is that you don’t need to commit an army of marketers to manage it. You do, however, need a consistent strategy of linking to your other content and keeping your page fresh and interesting.
With a little bit of organization and an eye on what matters to Google, you can make a real impact to your search ranking, and ultimately your business. If you need a little more guidance, or some help managing this process, just give us a call.
